In an existing office building of the Dutch Directorate-General for Public Works and Water Management a optimization of space was realized due to the implementation of “The New Way of Working” (Het Nieuwe Werken, flexible hours and/or working from home), and in relation to this, a new interior design. The Governments Building Agency, which suffered from overcapacity, now shares this building with the Directorate-General. It was necessary to enlarge the restaurant and Olll created a multifunctional wing that not only serves as a place to eat, but also as a place to work, meet, and discuss with each other during the day. Linked with the multifunctional room is a shared meeting room for gatherings and conferences. The interior includes a division into a static enclosed zone, with 4 person alcoves on one side, and a dynamic zone, an open work environment, on the other side. There is a gradual change of character from the core where people can relax, followed by a layer of communication and cooperation, to focused and concentrated working at the end of the wing. The identity of the northern Dutch provinces is repeated in wall paintings on walls and columns, which in an abstract way show the Dutch landscape and nature.
